Yet, as a native born citizen I cannot deny the opportunity for innocent youth to obtain a pathway towards citizenship.

I do not have to jump into every fray against the current war. I do not have to create a fray when one is not needed. The lives and the fate of hundreds of thousands of youth trumps my opposition to the military option.

I do not argue that the youth who chose to enlist in the military will not encounter danger, injury, disability, and death. But, historically, many citizens of color have voluntarily made this choice. Many of our cousins, brothers, uncles, and fathers have given their lives in what they believed in. I do not dishonor them for their choice.

For those who do not want to make this choice will have the attainable choice of finishing a two-year degree in 6 years. Let us find ways to help them accomplish that goal.

How arrogant of me to fight against a bill that will not affect me because I am already a citizen. My opposition to the war will not stop the war. But, our collective failed support for the Dream Act could contribute to its death. Pro-immigrant groups do not have to fight amongst themselves over this.

To keep these youths in their current status quo' is unacceptable.

Do we really want that result? Let us focus our attention in how we can enroll as many of these youth as possible into college and then develop and provide continued support networks to ensure their academic success. The Indigenous Xicanohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16741459773241994984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1774125483475099230.post-71184557394866281292009-03-28T21:34:00.000-07:002009-03-28T21:34:00.000-07:00I tried to write about this countless times, but i...I tried to write about this countless times, but it's so upsetting that I would lose it halfway through. I gave it a try, but it's missing some of the context you provided here. Lots of food for thought, thanks for writing this P!Luhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09108882642179277407noreply@blogger.com
